On behalf of Dr. Shaver, Superintendent of Schools, we appreciate the parents from all schools who participated in the Fall Virtual Parent Advisory Committee last night. Your feedback is essential, as your insights and recommendations contribute to our ongoing efforts to enhance the overall quality of education provided to all students.

Part of the feedback last night had to do with this particular opportunity for parents to participate in this virtual forum and how they wished it had been more widely advertised. From this feedback, Dr. Shaver is scheduling a second opportunity to host this Parent Advisory Meeting this coming Monday, October 27th at 6:30pm.

Ahead of the meeting, all interested parents need to download the ZOOM application on the device they are planning to use for this event. You also need to either email Mr. Morales your name, school affiliation and email address at jmorales@hyde.k12.nc.us or call the office at 252-926-3281 Ext. 3500 to collect the information.

The meeting ZOOM link will be emailed to those who registered in the morning on Monday, October 27th. Come join us and get involved with our school system!

Halloween is coming up! If your child wishes to wear their costume to school, please make sure it adheres to the following rules:

No identity concealing masks/make up
No handheld objects/ weapons (real or fake)
Nothing that will impede regular movement or ability to learn
Nothing gruesome and/or involving gore

If in doubt, ask a teacher. We want to make sure everyone is safe while having fun!

MATTAMUSKEET SCHOOL: Report Card Pick-up Night for Grades PreK- 2 & 4-12 is this Wednesday Oct 22nd 5-7pm. Grade 03 Pick-up Night & Read to Achieve Program Info is Thursday, Oct 23rd 5-7pm. Those who cannot make it will receive the report card with your child the next day. Be on the lookout to review it / SparkLab Open House for high grades students and their parents is Tuesday Nov 4th @ 4pm at the OA Peay Central Office Facilities. Dr. Shaver hosts a Virtual Superintendent's Parent Advisory Committee twice a year to share important information and also to get feedback from all of you. While each school campus has a number of parents who are part of this committee, she would like to open this invitation to ANY parent/guardian at either school campus who is interested in joining as well. Your input is always highly appreciated!

The Fall virtual convening of this parent advisory committee is this Monday, October 20th starting at 6:30pm. if you are interested in attending, please email Mr. Morales at jmorales@hyde.k12.nc.us and share your name, school your child is enrolled at, and your phone and email. The ZOOM virtual link for the meeting will be shared with all who signed up this Monday morning at the latest.

Mattamuskeet school is partnering with Volunteer Medical Corps (VMC) to provide school-based telehealth services at no out of pocket costs for all students and staff.

This means that students and staff who feel sick during the day can go to the nurse’s office and talk to a doctor or nurse by video.

Telehealth appointments are available for common health issues like sore throats, pink eye, coughs, fevers, bruises, and sprains. This school-based telehealth service allows students to get care quickly and spend less time away from class.

BOARD OF EDUCATION SPECIAL CALLED MEETING The Hyde County Board of Education will hold a Special Called Meeting on Wednesday, July 16th at 7:30am at the O.A. Peay Administrative Offices located at 1430 Main Street, Swan Quarter, NC 27885. The purpose of the meeting will be to meet with the board attorney for closed session legal consultation and to consider a vacancy on the board of education.

With Graduation Season all in this month, we are getting ready to bid farewell to the great Class of 2024 in our school system. We have been told only a few of our seniors have applied, so we need to make sure all seniors and their parents are aware of this opportunity to earn Federal dollars to help your child go to college or university if that is the path they are following after graduation. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid is a form completed by current and prospective college students in the United States to determine their eligibility for student financial aid. FAFSA is the First Step to ALL Financial Aid. And with the Next NC Scholarship, most students from households with incomes of $80,000 or less will qualify for at least $3,000/year to attend a NC community college that covers all tuition and fees. For students planning to go to a UNC institution, they can get $5,000/year that covers more than half, if not all, tuition and fees. And for students going to a NC private college there is a state need-based scholarship for them, too. But it all starts with FAFSA! It is not too late, Seniors and their parents! Go ahead and fill the FAFSA application online as soon as possible! Our school counselors are a great source of support if help is needed in completing the application!
