MATTAMUSKEET SCHOOL: Christmas Spirit Week this week. Check the Facebook related post for themed days / High Grades students have finals this week. Wish them luck! 3rd Block exams are tomorrow, 4th Block on Tuesday, 1st Block on Wednesday and 2nd Block on Thursday / Christmas Program in the gym and media center this Wednesday / Friday is the last day of school with students PreK through Grade 5 going to OA Peay School in Swan Quarter for the Polar Express Experience. They can wear pajamas and bring along a pillow and blanket / No 21st Century afterschool program on Friday. Afterschool services will resume on Monday, January 5th when school returns to sessions after the Christmas break.

OCRACOKE SCHOOL: Homecoming is today. Join us at 8:15 for a parade down School Road. The parade will begin at the Island Inn and move down School Road to the front of the school. Then, at 8:30, we will have a fun pep rally in the gym. Games begin at 4:00 with the Girls taking on Washington Montesorri. Boys Varsity will be after. We will end the night with our Homecoming Court directly after the conclusion of the games. On Saturday, December 13th, the Homecoming events continue with a 3 x 3 basketball tournament that begins at 11 am in the gym. Go DOLPHINS! Fear the POD!
ESCUELA OCRACOKE: El evento Homecoming es el dia de hoy. Unase a nosotros a las 8:15am para el desfile por la calle School Road. El desfile empezara en el Island Inn y culminara en frente de la escuela. Luego a las 8:30, tendremos un Pep Rally super divertido en el gimnasio. Los juegos se inician a las 4pm con el equipo femenino jugando contra Washington Montessori. El equipo masculino será después. Culminaremos la noche con la Corte de Homecoming una vez que culminen los juegos. El sábado, 13 de diciembre, los eventos Homecoming continuaran con un torneo de baloncesto que se inicia a las 11am en el gimnasio. Que vivan los delfines!

This week we are gearing up for our Christmas program, which is scheduled to take place next Wednesday, on December 17th. Please come out and join us at 5:30pm for festive fun! For our students who missed fall pictures, make up pictures are taking place on Friday, December 12th. Please make sure you get your photo taken if you haven’t done so already!
I also wanted to share news that I know is impacting our school community. This weekend, Mrs. Louise Beirne, our Middle School science teacher, passed away after a long hard fight with cancer. We know how hard this is for our students, families, and staff, and I wanted to make sure you all know that there will be resources available tomorrow for those who need someone to talk to. Please make sure you give your special people a little extra love in honor of Mrs. Beirne.

También quería compartir noticias que sé que están impactando a nuestra comunidad escolar. Este fin de semana, la Sra. Louise Beirne, nuestra maestra de ciencias de la escuela de grados medios, falleció después de una larga y dura lucha contra el cáncer. Sabemos lo difícil que es esto para nuestros estudiantes, familias y personal, y quería asegurarme de que todos sepan que habrá recursos disponibles mañana para aquellos que necesiten a alguien con quien hablar. OCRACOKE SCHOOL: Our new playground has brought so much joy to our students and families! To ensure the surface meets our full expectations for quality and appearance, the playground will be closed from Friday, October 31, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. through Monday, November 3 at 8a.m. Crews will be completing additional work on the surface area during this time. We appreciate everyone’s patience as we make sure the playground is just right for our Dolphins to enjoy! /// Nuestro patio de recreo ha traido mucha alegria a nuestros estudiantes y familias. MATTAMUSKEET SCHOOL GRADES 9-12: Parents, a reminder about the flyer and permission slip to allow your child to attend the 3rd Annual Recovery Walk at the Hyde County Health Department tomorrow at 9:00am. The information was sent last week with your child and a new copy of the permission slip sent home today. We will accept new permission slips first thing in the morning tomorrow in the main office. Students will be back to campus and class at 11:30am.
ESCUELA MATTAMUSKEET - GRADOS 9-12: Padres, un recordatorio del panfleto y planilla de permiso que se les envio a casa con sus hihjos la semana pasada para asistir a la 3ra Caminata de Recuperacion Anual patrocinada en el Departamento de Salud del Condado de Hyde en Swan Quarter manana a las 9:00am. Hoy se envio a casa otra copia de la planilla de permiso y se aceptaran manana en la manana a primera hora en la oficina. Los estudiantes regresaran a la escuela a las 11:30am.
On behalf of Dr. Shaver, Superintendent of Schools, we appreciate the parents from all schools who participated in the Fall Virtual Parent Advisory Committee last night. Your feedback is essential, as your insights and recommendations contribute to our ongoing efforts to enhance the overall quality of education provided to all students.
Part of the feedback last night had to do with this particular opportunity for parents to participate in this virtual forum and how they wished it had been more widely advertised. From this feedback, Dr. Shaver is scheduling a second opportunity to host this Parent Advisory Meeting this coming Monday, October 27th at 6:30pm.
Ahead of the meeting, all interested parents need to download the ZOOM application on the device they are planning to use for this event. You also need to either email Mr. Morales your name, school affiliation and email address at jmorales@hyde.k12.nc.us or call the office at 252-926-3281 Ext. 3500 to collect the information.
The meeting ZOOM link will be emailed to those who registered in the morning on Monday, October 27th. Come join us and get involved with our school system!
