Condolences

From the Desk of Superintendent, Stephen Basnight

It is with an extremely heavy heart that I am sharing the loss of a tremendously valuable member of the Hyde County Schools District Team. Montez "Taz" Fulford was based at our Central Office, but on any given day you might find him dropping off a bus or paper in Ocracoke, helping with meal delivery, working on the Mattamuskeet Campus, driving a bus, disinfecting O. A. Peay, changing out ceiling tiles, or setting up for a Board of Education Meeting. Each one of these necessary assignments was done with a smile and 100% commitment to doing them well!

Taz would greet me in the mornings with a "Good Morning" and a smile that lit up the office. Later in the day, he would stick his head in the door and ask, "How's it going?" and he really wanted to know! His infectious laugh echoes in the halls at O. A. Peay. He did his job with the enthusiasm that he fished with, "all in!"

Taz, I miss you; your loved ones miss you, and Hyde County Schools misses you! I pray that God will provide strength and comfort to your family and loved ones; that God is holding you in His loving arms today with that glorious smile on your face! God Bless You, My Friend! Your example to all of us each day will continue to be inspiring and I pray that you know, from all of us that know, "You mattered and you made a difference! Job well done!"

Until we meet again,
Steve
