Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a support group to help Elementary School students manage their emotions related to anxiety, stress, and overall challenges with emotion regulation. Using evidence-based practice, students will engage in simple meditation, relaxation techniques, and learn how to process/vocalize negative emotions in order to understand the use of positive coping skills. Students are referred to this group from either teachers, guidance counselors, or parents to the school social worker who conducts the group. Students must have a permission slip signed from a parent/guardian for participation. Mindfulness is once a week for approximately 30 minutes and lasts anywhere from 6-8 weeks.

Mindfulness at MES

Every Monday from 8:15am-8:45am

 

Mindfulness is defined as the quality or state of being conscious or aware of something by focusing awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations.

This in-person group is specifically designed for the elementary level student. Using evidence-based practice students will learn basic coping skills to manage anxiety using light meditation, drawing, and emotion exploring/expression.

Group will meet weekly in the morning to promote center, balance, and reduced stress/anxiety for the remainder of their day. Students are encouraged to practice learned skills during their day at school and at home to help promote steady and positive emotional well-being.

**Referrals are needed for a student to be signed up for group. Parent’s permission is required for student’s participation**
