To our students, staff, and community,

I wanted to let everyone know that a District, non-school based, employee and a staff member at Mattamuskeet Elementary School have received positive test results for COVID-19. We respect and are required by law to maintain the privacy of our students' and staff members' medical information; therefore, we are unable to share more specific information regarding this individual.

As you have all previously heard me say, we must all continue to be vigilant in our personal responsibility to limit the spread of COVID-19. Thank you for continuing to help us "control what we can control" by wearing cloth masks, washing our hands frequently, and maintaining social distancing. All of our efforts are focused on reducing the risk of transmitting and contracting this virus within our schools. We greatly appreciate your understanding and support for continuing to implement the latest advisories focused on maintaining the safety and health of our students and staff members.

I assure you that we will continue to follow all guidance issued by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, the Centers for Disease Control, the Hyde County Health Department and Director Luana Gibbs, and the North Carolina High School Athletic Association. As requirement and recommendation protocols are updated or provided, we will update our processes and procedures as quickly as possible to reflect the most up-to-date safety recommendations.

Hyde County Schools will continue to provide an ongoing data-base on our website with the most up-to-date data on COVID-19 positive tests and quarantined individuals by school within our school system. As always, if you should have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me or the Hyde County Health Department
